Before the Smoothie King Center, there was another place called "Sportsman's Park". It was at this park that the original New Orleans Pelicans held professional, minor league baseball games as part of the now defunct Southern League.
While our modern day Minor League team is based in Metairie, the Pels played professional games at the foot of Canal Street and the heart of Midcity from 1865 to 1959. The notorious "Shoeless" Joe Jackson even led the team to the pennant in 1910, years before the infamous "Black Sox" scandal.
This Special Edition hat serves as tribute to that time, and the players who helped make this game so special throughout the years.
