Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast - Dirty Coast

Habitat MS Gulf Coast was founded in 2007 when Harrison County Habitat and Habitat of Jackson County merged to better serve their community. Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005, leaving a massive need for affordable housing in its wake. In the past ten years, we have built, rehabbed and repaired almost 1,000 homes.

The mission of Habitat for Humanity of the MS Gulf Coast is “Opportunity Transforms. Empower People.” We believe that when HFHMGC partners with community stakeholders we are given the chance to provide opportunities to people on the Gulf Coast. Opportunities include homeownership, home repair, weatherization for increased energy efficiency, a catalog/ curriculum of financial education courses, as well as one-on-one individual financial counseling. The opportunities can be truly transformative for not only the individual, but for the family and their future as well as the community as a whole.

Habitat MS Gulf Coast prides itself on the work we do for our community. We have offered several different types of programs to suit the many needs of the Gulf Coast. From rehab and repair, home improvement, weatherization and new builds. We build our homes to FORTIFIED Standards to ensure our homeowners have a strong foundation to raise their families. This means our homes will withstand high winds and rain, reducing the insurance costs. We build to Energy Star standards to ensure our homeowner's’ utility bills are affordable and we are taking care of our environment. We offer free financial education classes at our offices, as well as at high schools and other organizations. Habitat MS Gulf Coast was the first Habitat to create and implement a Financial Education program. This program gives not only our homeowners, but the general public as well, an opportunity to further advance their own lives.
