The New Orleans Christmas Gift Guide

The best New Orleans Christmas gifts are picked for the person, not for the city in general. Figure out who you're shopping for (the cook, the kid, the Saints fan, the impossible uncle) and give them the piece of New Orleans that fits how they actually live.

We've been wrapping presents behind the counter on Magazine Street and Chartres Street for twenty years, and the gift that lands is almost never the one with a fleur-de-lis slapped on it for no reason. It's the tea towel that ends up stained with roux by New Year's. Or it's the ornament that comes out of the box every December while somebody explains the joke to a new in-law.

If your person moved away and misses home, we already wrote that guide: Gifts for Someone Who Misses New Orleans. This one is for everybody else on the list.

For the Cook

Every family has one person who won't let you near the stove on Christmas Eve. Give them something for the kitchen that admits the truth about this city, which is that we plan dinner while we're still eating lunch.

The Let's Eat Lunch and Talk About Dinner Tea Towel says it plainly. Pair it with the Po'Boy Patent Tea Towel, which lays out the city's sandwich like it was filed with the government. (It wasn't, but the real story is good too. According to 64 Parishes, the Martin brothers built the po-boy to feed striking streetcar workers in 1929.)

For the cook who still shops like their grandmother did, the Makin' Groceries Tote Bag is the bag they'll carry to the market every Saturday. And if they'd rather wear it, New Orleans Is My Favorite Restaurant is a shirt for people who rank their weekends by what they ate.

For the Kid

Kids are easy. Give them something they can wear to school that makes a grandparent laugh.

In That Number Kids runs from newborn onesies up through youth sizes, so it works for a baby's first Saints season or a third grader who already knows all the words. For the small person with opinions, NAH Kids is exactly as petty as it sounds.

If you want something for under the tree that isn't a shirt, the 50th anniversary edition of Cajun Night Before Christmas moves the whole story to the bayou. Read it out loud and do the voices. Our kids collection has more.

For the Saints Fan

You know this person. They have a pregame routine, and they will tell you about it whether you ask or not.

The NOLA X Hat is the safe bet, and it holds up to a full season of tailgates. For the fan who likes their history, The Throwback Jersey is our salute to the Tulane Stadium regulars who showed up before there was a Dome. Socks make a good add-on, and we carry Black & Gold Fleur de Lis Socks by Bonfolk.

The Saints fans collection has the rest of the game-day wardrobe in one place, and our post on what to wear to a Saints game covers the bag rules before they find out at the gate.

For the Host

Somebody is opening their house this year. Bring them something better than a candle from the drugstore.

The Fairgrounds Go-Cup is a 16-ounce silicone pint built for walking a drink from the kitchen to the porch and back. If you need to explain why that matters, we wrote a whole thing: Consider the Go-Cup. A King Cake Candle is a nice nudge that Carnival starts in a couple of weeks.

For the Stocking

Stockings are where New Orleans gifts shine, because so much of what we make is small and a little ridiculous. A few that fit:

The stocking itself can be the gift. The Shrimp Boot Holiday Stocking is shaped like the white rubber boot you see on every shrimper and at every crawfish boil. The Marching Boot Holiday Stocking has a yarn tassel and the attitude of a dance team on St. Charles.

For the long list of cousins, our gifts under $20 collection exists for a reason, and we rounded up more in New Orleans Gifts Under $30. Shopping for clients or a whole office? See our guide to New Orleans corporate gifts.

For the Tree

Ornaments are the gift that keeps coming back. They get unwrapped every December, and every December somebody tells the story again.

The Shrimp Po'Boy Ornament is a po-boy hanging off a branch, which is exactly as good as it sounds. The Oyster Ornament is a quieter choice for the person who likes their decorations a little less loud. Browse the rest in our ornaments collection.

Wrap It Like You Mean It

Plain paper is fine. Paper with a snoball on it is better. Our Snoball Pop Art Wrapping Paper and Jazzin' Wrapping Paper both turn a box into part of the present, and a Humid Holidays Greeting Card says what everybody's thinking when it's 78 degrees the week before Christmas.

If you're mailing gifts out of town, don't wait. The U.S. Postal Service's recommended 2026 holiday mailing dates for the lower 48 are December 17 for Ground Advantage and December 18 for Priority Mail.

Or skip the post office and come see us on Magazine Street or Chartres Street. We'll help you figure out who gets what. And if you're in town for the holidays, here's how we celebrate Christmas in New Orleans.

New Orleans Christmas Gifts: FAQ

What are good New Orleans Christmas gifts?

Shop by the person. Cooks like tea towels and market totes, while Saints fans want hats and jerseys. An ornament with a local joke on it works for almost anybody.

What are good New Orleans stocking stuffers?

Small things that ship flat and get used: keychains, enamel pins, patches and koozies. A Shrimp Boot or Marching Boot stocking can hold all of it.

When should I mail Christmas gifts from New Orleans?

For delivery within the contiguous U.S. before Christmas 2026, USPS recommends mailing by December 17 for Ground Advantage and December 18 for Priority Mail. Earlier is always safer.
